Ellis Pins

Engineering Biomechanics.

Ellis Pins are specially engineered orthopedic pins developed primarily for use in external skeletal fixation systems. The defining characteristic of the Ellis Pin design is its short-threaded working tip. This specialized geometry is intended to optimize the balance between mechanical bone purchase and the structural behavior of the pin shaft.

About This Product

In conventional long-threaded pins, the transition between the threaded segment and the smooth shaft may create a critical region of stress concentration under mechanical loading. The short-threaded tip geometry of Ellis Pins is based on a simple biomechanical principle: shorter threaded segment → controlled transition → more balanced load transfer.

This design approach aims to reduce stress concentrations and potentially reduce the risk of pin breakage, particularly in external fixation constructs subjected to repetitive mechanical loading.

Applications

  • External skeletal fixation systems
  • Hybrid fixation constructs
  • Multiplanar external fixation
  • Complex fracture stabilization
  • Segmental bone defects
  • Periarticular fractures
  • Long-term external fixation applications
